I-DEAL is a MSCA - Staff Exchange project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation funding programme.
The novelty and innovation of I-DEAL are to reduce the many fundamentally unresolved R&D questions on the acquisition, processing and fusion of geospatial data and on how to make such geodata more reliable, powerful and useful for society.
Progress in the provision of efficiently- and effectively-derived decision-ready geospatial information is the key to better support Europe’s future, for the benefit of individuals and societies and the key transformation from data to information and knowledge to define decision support tools.
Moreover, new occupations in the geospatial industry are emerging, requiring capacity building for fine-tuning geospatial technologies to better support the EU Green Deal, the various UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as well as regional and local challenges relating to territorial management.
I-DEAL will therefore align its R&D and training activities with industrial and societal needs in order to develop the necessary pipeline of skilled workers and co-design implementations to suit feasibility, viability and usability of geospatial solutions.
I-DEAL has been designed as a Research & Innovation (R&I) project among intersectoral partners to exchange knowledge, methods and workflows and to ensure technological advancement for the EU and the involved participants.
I-DEAL R&I activities will be dedicated to support the EU Green Deal activities and to foster resilience of ecosystems.
To accomplish its objectives, the main R&I activities of I-DEAL will be addressed in four interlinked WPs with two transversal WPs responsible for knowledge transfer and training as well as for awareness raising of project results.
The project started on January 2026 and will last 48 months.
