I-DEAL aims to investigate, design and validate innovative methodologies for creating enriched 3D geospatial information from a variety of remotely sensed data to support decision makers and applications in fields like land-, coast- and forestry mapping, climate change mitigation and adaptation, vegetation monitoring, biodiversity assessment, urban sustainability and resilience, pollution analysis on natural and anthropic ecosystems, etc.
To achieve this, I-DEAL has set 5 specific objectives:
Objective #1: To review, analyze and improve existing solutions for the acquisition of geospatial and thematic data at multiple scales from different (ground, aerial, satellite) platforms and (optical and radar, visible and infrared, multispectral and hyperspectral) sensors to support environmental monitoring processes;
• Objective #2: To innovate automated processing tools for geospatial data registration, classification and understanding, 2D/3D feature extraction and digital twin generation to assistance Green Deal and climate change mitigation;
• Objective #3: To evaluate and apply geodata and novel AI algorithms for extracting valuable analysis-ready products, upscale solutions and deploy them in urban, agricultural and forestry contexts, demonstrating how geospatial solutions can support the EU Green Deal ambition;
• Objective #4: To test and validate widely-applicable solutions to support ecological resilience actions, policies and surveillance at different scales, from atmosphere and biosphere to hydrosphere and built environment;
• Objective #5: To realize a series of secondments, trainings and promotional outreach activities across countries, sectors and disciplines and to support joint research and innovation, foster new skills, strengthen human resources and improve synergies and collaboration.
